Description These dimensional convex disk “Shield” earrings feature rich rustic hammered texture, beautiful light play and reflective qualities, and function as awesome touchstone earrings. Created in 14k yellow gold filled, each one is hammer formed with it’s own unique texture. 14k yellow gold filled earring hooks complete the design. The very nature of a shield is to protect. It represents not only protection, but steadfast principals, commitment and loyalty. I’ve been wearing this design regularly, and frequently placing my thumb in the backside of the earring as a kind of touchstone anchoring practice. It helps me feel grounded, present, and safe. These earrings are made to order and each pair is unique. Yours will be created just for you. THE DETAILS -Disks are 22 gauge 14k yellow gold filled about 16mm diameter (5/8″) , hammer textured and hammer forged into a domed convex shape. -The texture is rich and rustic, a combination of different hammering tools and techniques. These have gorgeous reflection and light play on the front side and mirror-like quality on the back side. -Total earring length from top of hook to bottom of design is 25mm (1″). -Drop length from connecting point at bottom of hook to bottom of dangle is 16mm (5/8″). -Earring hooks are small 14k yellow gold filled ball end ear wires. ABOUT GOLD FILLED JEWELRY Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold, which must constitute at least 5% (1/20) of the item’s total weight, mechanically bonded to sterling silver or a base metal (such as jeweler’s brass). Gold-filled items are 5 to 10 times thicker than regular gold plating, and 15 to 25 times thicker than gold electroplate, making it much more valuable and longer lasting because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film as on plated jewelry which is estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Most gold-filled is 12kt or 14kt gold-filled (I use 14kt for my pieces). Gold-filled does not de-laminate or peel like plated or “dipped” products. It is tarnish resistant and does not tarnish as readily as silver. Many find that they never have to clean gold-filled items at all.
